Get ready to lace up your virtual sneakers and hit the rooftops; STRIDE: Fates is here, marking a thrilling leap forward for VR parkour adventures on the Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro. With the original STRIDE setting the stage back in 2020, this indirect sequel isn’t just a follow-up—it’s a narrative-driven solo journey that marries high-octane action with an intriguing story arc.
Joy Way, after half a decade of honing their craft in the VR action scene, has taken all their learning and successes to elevate STRIDE: Fates to new heights. The game’s release trailer is a tantalizing peek at what awaits, promising the kind of adrenaline rush that only the best of VR can deliver.
Available now on the Meta Quest Store and slated for an early 2024 release on Steam VR, STRIDE: Fates is priced at $29.99. It’s an investment in edge-of-your-seat VR gaming that’s sure to pay dividends in excitement and immersion. And for the Steam VR enthusiasts who supported the original STRIDE in Early Access (between Sept 4, 2020 and June 10, 2022), Joy Way is dishing out STRIDE: Fates absolutely free at launch as a hat tip to your early belief in their vision.

But what about the PlayStation VR 2 and Pico chasers? Well, word on the digital street is that Joy Way might be bringing the action to your headsets later in 2024. It’s not set in stone, but the possibility is high!
Now, let’s dive into the essence of STRIDE: Fates. Picture yourself as Nick Young, an ex-slumdog turned spec-ops virtuoso, part of the elite “SkyChase” police unit. Airon City’s dystopian landscape is your playground and battlefield, from the grime of the slums to the glitter of corporate towers. It’s a city pulsating with gang conflicts, corporate espionage, and enigmatic tech—perfect for a parkour connoisseur like yourself. Jumping from roof top to roof top hundreds of feet about the city floor is exhilarating!
You’ll experience a campaign rich in narrative and action, clocking in at around 6-8 hours of breathtaking, sweat-inducing gameplay. And with the reworked STRIDE Engine, the graphics are pushing the Quest 2 to its limits. Although not yet harnessing the full potential of the Quest 3’s hardware, enhancements are already in the pipeline, ensuring that the future of STRIDE: Fates is as boundless as the virtual skies it invites you to explore.
You’ll definitely be met with a little bit of jank as Joyway continues to update this title to make it as smooth as possible. But for now just be prepared for some weirdness like unintentional grabbing of objects, grabbing your gun instead of the ledge you were going for and so on. These things are not game breaking and certainly has not stifled my enjoyment of playing this parkour banger of a game!
So, ready to jump into the fray and unravel a tapestry of secrets with every leap and wall-run? STRIDE: Fates is not just a game; it’s a portal to a world where every jump is a story, and every sprint is a saga. One of my personal favorite VR games of 2023!
