Spatial Ops: A New Dimension in VR Gaming – An Exclusive with Paul Brady of Resolution Games
Virtual Reality (VR) has been making waves in the gaming industry for years, but with the recent showcase at GDC 2023, it’s clear that the tide is rising faster than ever. One of the standout titles that had everyone talking was “Spatial Ops,” presented by Resolution Games. We had the opportunity to sit down with Paul Brady, the president and co-founder of Resolution Games, to discuss this groundbreaking game and the future of VR.
“Spatial Ops” is not just another VR game; it’s an experience. As Paul Brady puts it, “This is really what we’re excited about too because it’s the first time we’ve ever shown this.” The game offers a unique blend of the real and virtual worlds, allowing players to see their home environment while playing. “You’re in your home environment so you see your furniture, your furniture becomes a part of the game even,” Brady explained. Imagine hiding behind your couch in-game or resting your arms on a table to take aim.
One of the game’s standout features is the portal that opens up in front of players, bridging the gap between their living room and a world filled with challenges. “You see this portal open up in front of you and it’s a world to a whole other dimension of things you don’t want coming in at you,” Brady described. The immersion is so intense that when enemies run into your play space out of the portal, it’s genuinely startling. “They’re like running fast too, it almost takes you back when they first run into that portal,” Brady added.
“Spatial Ops” is not just about immersion; it’s also about action. Players have access to an arsenal of weapons, from pistols and shotguns to chain guns and sniper rifles. Brady enthusiastically shared, “There’s a really cool pistol, shotgun, sniper rifle, turret gun, Tommy gun. It’s, I mean, we change it up and it’s really cool to get those two grips and the feeling of changing the ammo and the kick of the shotgun and pumping it and all that stuff is really, really, really fun.”
Resolution Games’ massive booth at GDC 2023 was a testament to the growing importance of VR in the gaming industry. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many people and also this much VR at GDC,” Brady remarked. With major players like Meta and Pico also showcasing their latest offerings, it’s clear that VR is not just a passing trend but a significant player in the future of gaming.
“Spatial Ops” is setting a new standard for VR gaming, offering an unparalleled blend of immersion and action. As we wrapped up our conversation, Paul Brady left us with a heartfelt thank you, “Really appreciate you all coming by and checking it out.” For those who have yet to experience “Spatial Ops,” it’s clear that this is a game that should not be missed.
