During an enlightening live stream, Scott Albright, the pioneering CEO and founder of Combat Waffle Studios, alongside the voice behind the iconic game tutorial, and Chief media officer, known affectionately as “ProperD,” delved into their adventures in the VR realm.
“I never thought I’d be recognized just by my voice,” ProperD laughed, “Being the ‘tutorial guy’ is both incredibly cool and slightly haunting.”
Ghosts of Tabor, Combat Waffle’s brainchild, is a VR tactical shooter that’s akin to the visceral gameplay of Escape From Tarkov. Set against a fictional backdrop resembling the Czech Republic, every single map has been meticulously crafted, echoing real European locales. The game’s community, growing at an exponential rate on Discord from 3,000 to a monumental 61,100, stands as testimony to its global appeal. As Scott remarked, “The community is our backbone. Their enthusiasm and feedback drive us, though we’ve had to pause direct messaging because of the sheer volume!”
Conceived and polished to perfection in just 11 months, the journey of Ghosts of Tabor is a saga of passion and dedication. The relentless team, including VR stalwarts like ProperD, Jonas, Ray, and Infish, showed unwavering commitment, even taking pay cuts of up to 60% to see their dream materialize. “We believe in Ghosts of Tabor. The sacrifices were tough but completely worth it,” shared Scott.
With the game’s engrossing dynamics reflected in numbers – 7 million player deaths and a whopping 82 million shots fired – it’s clear that players are deeply immersed. Scott proudly announced, “At any moment, we have around 87 players living our dream in the game.”
The origins of Ghosts of Tabor are rooted in the shared vision of two VR aficionados: Scott and ProperD . Meeting initially as competitors in the VR game, Pop One, their synergy led to Combat Waffle. For ProperD, internationally acclaimed for his VR videos, this venture was destiny in action. “When Scott approached me, I knew this was the project I’d been waiting for,” Duncan reminisced.
Yet, the success of Ghosts of Tabor isn’t merely about collaborations or statistics. The team’s gratitude to their community is profound and palpable. “We owe so much to our players. From gameplay suggestions to cheering us on, they’ve been with us every step of the way,” Scott expressed. The excitement continues with the game scheduled to debut on PlayStation VR2 this September.
As the narrative of Ghosts of Tabor unfolds, it stands as a monument to collaboration, resilience, and the unparalleled excitement the world of VR offers. As Scott confidently proclaimed, “This is just the beginning. We have a universe to explore together!”
