It’s been a good week for VR gaming enthusiasts. In one of a handful of surprise announcements during Sony’s “VR Day” on the PlayStation Blog, Well Told Entertainment revealed the release date for its unique looking game, The Foglands. The sci-fi western roguelite is set to launch on October 31, 2023, promising a Halloween with more to offer than just free candy. The game is currently available for pre-order for $35 on the PlayStation Store.
The Foglands introduces players to a world shrouded in a toxic fog, where they take on the role of a “Runner” named Jim. Runners are tasked with scavenging goods and battling the freaky creatures lurking within the fog to ensure the survival of their community, which resides in an underground bunker known as “The Hold”. The game sees Jim embark on a mission to confront a massive behemoth emerging from the foggy depths, threatening the existence of The Hold.
The game promises a unique blend of melee and shoot-em-up gunplay, which utilizes the advanced features of PS VR2 to deliver a highly immersive and fun gaming experience. The Foglands allows players to explore constantly changing environments, engage in intense combat, and collect valuable items, all while unraveling the mysteries of the fog.
The announcement of the release date and pricing information were not the only surprises that Well Told Entertainment brought to VR Day. The studio also revealed that The Foglands will be playable with or without a VR headset. This means players can fully immerse themselves in the action of The Foglands using PS VR2 or enjoy the game on their flat screen with PS5. While the inclusion of an optional flatscreen mode on PS5 is not for players like me, it does make sense, considering the fast-paced gameplay might be uncomfortable for gamers that are new to VR.
The Foglands is coming this Halloween to PS5 and Meta Quest, with PCVR support slated for a later date. Whether you are a fan of roguelites, eager to explore the unknown, or just looking for something new to play, you might want to keep an eye on this one.
