Dead Second officially launches on the Meta Quest Store today. Developed by Spunge Games, this popular arcade action cover shooter has developed a cult following during its nearly three-year stint on Meta’s App Lab. The full version of the game contains features and enhancements that will keep even the most experienced veteran coming back for more.

Dead Second first made waves in the VR community when it debuted on Meta’s App Lab, quickly becoming one of the best-reviewed titles on the platform. Drawing inspiration from 90’s arcade classics like Time Crisis, Dead Second offered a fresh take on the genre with its accessible, pick-up-and-play mechanics, and highly competitive gameplay. Players were immediately hooked by its intense shootouts, bullet-time reactions, and meticulously polished weapon handling.

Dead Second tasks you with taking on the role of a righteous gun-for-hire, eliminating corruption and wickedness in a dystopian cityscape. The game’s signature node-based teleport cover system and simple controls make it an excellent entry point for VR newcomers, while its innovative physics-based gun mechanics provide depth and challenge for seasoned players. Whether you’re an attacker breaching a bomb site or a defender holding your ground, Dead Second delivers an addictive 5v5 team-based experience.

The tight, replayable game loop is complemented by daily rewards, achievements, and leaderboards, encouraging players to keep coming back for more. With no-nausea locomotion and accessible mechanics, Dead Second is both fun and comfortable for extended play sessions.

What’s New in the Full Launch Version?

With the official Meta Quest Store launch, Dead Second introduces several exciting updates and enhancements:

    • Updated Levels: Eight levels have been revitalized with new details and improved lighting, providing a fresh visual experience and enhanced immersion.
    • New Enemy Attack Drones: These drones introduce increased challenges and strategic depth, requiring players to adapt and refine their tactics.
    • Rebalanced Difficulty Levels: The game now offers a more balanced gameplay experience that is both challenging and fair, catering to a wide range of player skills.
    • Quest 3 Enhancements: Leveraging the power of the Quest 3, players can now enjoy real-time shadows and bloom post-effects, making the game’s visuals more immersive than ever.
    • Temporal OverDrive: Consecutive kills charge up this ability, allowing players to slow down time for several seconds, providing a significant strategic advantage. This powerful tool can only be used periodically and requires a cooldown period.
    • Achievements and Leaderboards: Numerous new leaderboard modifiers and 23 achievements with in-game progress rewards add layers of challenge and replayability.
    • Optimizations and Bug Fixes: Various improvements have been made to enhance overall game performance and player experience.
    • New Soundtrack: Immerse yourself in the action with a brand new, dynamic soundtrack that heightens the intensity of every shootout.

Looking ahead, Dead Second has a detailed roadmap to keep players coming back for more. The first update, scheduled for 3-6 months post-launch, will introduce two-handed weapons, fire mode selection, improved AI for NPCs, and two new levels, bringing the total number of levels to ten. The second update, planned for 9-12 months post-launch, will feature a new location setting with 4-6 new levels, new enemy types and behaviors, enhanced environment interactions, and basic hand-to-hand combat. These rolling updates will continuously add new levels, locations, enemy types, weapons, and skins, ensuring Dead Second remains awesome for years to come.

Dead Second is available now on the Meta Quest Store, priced at $14.99. For more information, visit the Dead Second website, join the community on Discord, and follow on Instagram and X, and stay tuned to XR Update.
