After garnering a loyal following and substantial updates since its original release on the PlayStation VR, ALVO is finally making its way back to PlayStation with a PS VR2 release slated for September 14th, 2023.
A Roller-Coaster Journey
ALVO has had quite a journey. Originally announced during the earliest days of PlayStation VR, the game was intended to be a first of its kind, team-based, arcade-style shooter with support for the groundbreaking PlayStation Aim controller. Despite high hopes, funding issues led to the project’s cancellation in 2018. However, a passionate community of PSVR gamers rallied to breathe new life into the project, and ALVO was eventually released on PSVR in 2021. It later extended its reach to the Meta Quest 2, becoming one of the few VR games to support crossplay between the Meta Quest and PlayStation VR platforms.
What’s New in PS VR2 Version
ALVO for PS VR2 is packed with enhancements that make full use of the new console’s capabilities:
- Real-Time Dynamic Lighting: More immersive environments than ever before.
- Ultra-Sharp 4K HDR Graphics: With an improved 110° FOV for an unparalleled visual experience.
- Highly Immersive Gunplay: Featuring advanced haptics and adaptive triggers made possible by the PS VR2 Sense Controller.
- PS VR2 Headset Feedback: For an added layer of immersion.
These features come alongside an already impressive list that includes a variety of game modes like Zombies, Free For All, and Team Deathmatch, and a compelling progression system.
Crossplay and More
One of the key aspects that make ALVO stand out is its support for full cross-platform multiplayer. PS VR2 players can enjoy the game with friends on PSVR and Quest 2. This is particularly significant considering the game is also slated for a Steam VR release in the very near future, which will further extend its crossplay support.
Price and Upgrade
ALVO will be available on PS VR2 for $19.99, and for those who already own the game on PSVR, an upgrade is available for just $5.00. The upgrade also allows players to continue their in-game progress on the new platform.
An Experimental Feature
It’s worth noting that the ALVO team is currently testing an experimental feature that would allow players to choose between native 90 FPS and reprojected 120 FPS. While this is still in the testing phase, if greenlit, it could set a new industry standard for user comfort and gameplay customization.
The countdown has begun for what promises to be the best version of ALVO yet. Mark your calendars for September 14th and get ready to engage the enemy!
