Meta has unveiled its highly anticipated Quest 3 at Connect 2023. The device, available for pre-order now, is set to ship on October 10th, 2023, and is available in two variants: a 128GB version for $500 and a 512GB version for $650. It will be available through Meta and its official partners, including Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart, in the US, and in 23 countries via the Meta Store.
Specifications
Quest 3 boasts a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, 8GB RAM, and resolutions of 2064×2208 per eye, offering a significant upgrade from its predecessors, Quest 2 and Quest Pro. It features pancake lenses, providing superior visual clarity and a slimmer profile, allowing a more comfortable user experience. The device supports a field of view of 110 degrees horizontal and 96 degrees vertical, surpassing even the Quest Pro. It also offers manual IPD adjustment ranging from 53-75mm and a built-in mechanism to adjust the lens distance, eliminating the need for a separate spacer for glasses wearers.
Mixed Reality
Quest 3 stands out with its high-fidelity, full-color passthrough view, blending real and virtual worlds seamlessly. It is backward compatible with the Quest 2 library and is expected to receive over 50 new titles by the end of the year, along with upgrades and mixed reality features for existing titles. The device is capable of understanding the physical space around the user, allowing virtual experiences to interact seamlessly with the real world. It continues to support controller-free hand tracking and will ship with new Touch Plus controllers, which utilize a combination of infrared LEDs and continuous controller-free hand tracking.
Battery Life
With a battery life comparable to Quest 2, Quest 3 averages around 2.2 hours of use, varying with different activities. Meta has introduced battery-saving options, providing users with more flexibility to extend playtime or optimize performance. The device also supports PC VR content when connected to a VR-ready PC via Link and AirLink.
Accessories
A variety of accessories, including different versions of the Elite Strap, color variants of standard straps and facial interfaces, a carrying case, and an optional charging dock, will be available alongside Quest 3. Buyers will receive a free copy of Asgard’s Wrath 2 and a six-month Quest+ subscription trial with the 512GB model
