The hits just keep on coming to Meta Quest. After more than a year of mostly mediocre releases, the dam has finally broken with the launch of Meta’s new flagship: Quest 3. Yesterday, Meta further bolstered this year’s release schedule with the announcement of Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior. This latest entry from Rebellion, in partnership with Just Add Water, is set to release by the end of the month.
Following up on the success of 2021’s Sniper Elite VR, Rebellion brings fans back into the fight with Winter Warrior. Players will once again step into the boots of ‘The Partisan’, an Italian resistance fighter during World War II. This time, the stakes are raised as they embark on a dangerous journey to dismantle the Nazi’s top secret ‘wonder-weapons’.
The Sniper Elite series has always been known for its intricate ballistics and authentic sniping mechanics. Players should expect to feel the weight of their rifle, utilize both hands for precision shooting, and brace themselves for the tension of peering through the scope for that perfect shot.
Beyond just the story-driven campaign, Rebellion will also introduce two additional modes to keep players on their toes:
- Sniper Hunt: An intricate game of hide-and-seek where players must outsmart and eliminate elite Nazi snipers.
- Last Stand: A survival mode where players defend against waves of enemies, strategically gathering ammo, and setting traps.
Interestingly, Rebellion has chosen to launch Winter Warrior exclusively on the Meta Quest platform. This decision, while surprising to many, is just the latest example of the substantial influence that Meta holds over the game development ecosystem. When questioned about the absence of a multi-platform release, Rebellion explained that it was their collaboration with Meta which eventually evolved into the exclusive creation of Winter Warrior.
Releasing on November 30th, Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior is priced at a surprisingly modest $15. This, of course, has led to speculation about the game’s length and depth, especially when compared to its predecessor, which featured a 6-8 hour campaign at double the price. Only time will tell whether this title turns out to be a full fledged campaign, or merely a standalone DLC.

‘collaboration with Meta which eventually evolved into the exclusive creation of Winter Warrior.’
likely then that meta approached rebellion, and a probable sack of money was involved. Screen grab doesn’t look like anything beyond what the quest 2 can handle, so you’re probably correct in assuming the short and shallow. I don’t get why (if meta are contributing funds to these projects) that when using established IP and good developers, they aren’t building titles for the quest 3. Indies won’t for obvious reasons, but meta funded titles, come on…
