On this past Friday’s episode of PSVR GamesCast LIVE, Bryan Paul revealed a bit of news that some within the PSVR 2 community have found very difficult to accept. One of the most highly anticipated upcoming PS VR2 releases of the year, Vertigo 2, will not be launching this month after all.
For those of you who might have missed the show, I can confirm that the delay is real. Bryan was initially given this information directly from a spokesperson for the game’s publisher, Perp Games. The game’s developer, Zach Tsiakalis-Brown, would later go on to confirm the delay via a post on X (Twitter), effectively crushing the hopes of anyone who may have still been living in denial.
For what it’s worth, I genuinely believe that this delay is in the best interests of the community and the game itself. Given the unfinished state of a few recent PS VR2 releases, many within the community are starting to see their patience wear thin with regard to quality issues. If all that it takes is a little more time for Perp and Zulubo to deliver the best possible version of one of the best VR games that I have ever played, then so be it. I’d rather wait for the game, than wait for a patch.
Make no mistake; the intention behind this delay is to ensure that the game launches flawlessly on PS VR2. With its already excellent reviews on other platforms, this newer version of Vertigo 2 promises to capitalize on PS VR2’s unique hardware capabilities. Additionally, this release will see the introduction of a few newly playable characters, each presenting unique gameplay mechanics that will significantly alter the course of the game.
So, as much as I understand the disappointment surrounding the delay (believe me, I want to play it too), I’d like to urge the PS VR2 faithful to focus on the bigger picture. With the unique features and substantial content being brought into the PSVR 2 version, Vertigo 2’s release could very well set a new benchmark in VR gaming. But remember, quality takes time.
As we approach Vertigo 2’s release date, be sure to keep an eye on XR Update and PS VR2 Without Parole to stay up to speed with the latest.
